Open House Technology
The Robert E. Morris Company of Windsor, Connecticut will hold an Open House on Wednesday and Thursday, December 15 and 16, at the Morris Group, Inc. Technology Center. Below is a listing of the machines that will be on display.
- Okuma VTR-160A Double Column Turning Center
Rising global demand for large parts used in railroad cars, airplanes, construction machinery, and power generation plants spurred Okuma to develop the VTR Series of Double Column Vertical Turning Centers. Parts requiring serious heavy-duty cutting, including those made of difficult-to-machine and thin or cylindrical materials, are ideally suited for the VTR-A models which deliver consistently high accuracy and high- quality cutting in many environments.
The VTR-160A Double Column Vertical Turning Center masters large part turning, milling, drilling and tapping. Its vertical elevating crossrail combined with its 250 mm (9.84 inches) square ram accommodates parts up to 1600 mm (62.99 inches) diameter by 1250 mm (49.21 inches) in height. Maximum workpiece load is 10,000 kg (22,000 lbs).
The VTR-160A technology was unveiled at EMO Milan in 2009 and is in use in Asia. The specific machine being assembled in the Morris Group, Inc. Technology Center is the first Okuma VTR installed in the Americas.
- Okuma MB-5000H Horizontal Machining Center
The MB-H series provides a unique combination of high-speed and power in a small footprint. Highly productive with a high speed spindle and reduced non-cutting time, the MB-H series is built on the Okuma Thermo-Friendly Concept which enables the machine to predict and counter thermal deformation, improving accuracy. Machining Navi M-i is an optional Okuma- developed technology that determines optimal cutting conditions to increase machining efficiency. The MB-H Series models are expandable with modular ATC and APC. An MB-8000H is also available.
Okuma MU-500V Vertical Machining Center
The Okuma MU-Series delivers optimal performance, versatility, and powerful 5-axis machining. A trunnion table with direct drive motors on both A and C axes enables the C-axis to double as a 1,000 RPM multitasking turning spindle. Improved rigidity, reduced set-ups and simultaneous 5-axis machining facilitate manufacture of precision-crafted components. Standard features include Okuma’s OSP Control, Collision Avoidance System and Thermo-Friendly Concept.
- Okuma 33TU Five Axis Vertical Multifunction Lathe
Ideal for radial and angular applications on small parts, this 5-axis vertical multi-tasking machine handles a wide variety of workpieces in a small space. It features a Fanuc 31i Control and a trunnion table that uses direct drive motors enabling it to have a 1,000 RPM multifunction turning spindle.
- Okuma Multus B300-W Multitasking Machine
The Okuma Multus B300-W is a high-quality multitasking machine that reduces set up time by virtually eliminating repetitive fixturing, improving accuracy and keeping non-cutting time to a minimum. It features the industry’s first Collision Avoidance System software and Okuma’s Thermo-Friendly Concept, assuring optimal productivity and profitability through improved quality and throughput. A sub spindle, large capacity ATC and 10,000 RPM multitasking spindle further enhance its flexibility.
- Okuma MB46 Vertical Machining Center
The basis for all Okuma vertical machining centers, the MB Series sets the bar for efficiency and utility. An impressive thermal stability and zero table overhang allow for tight tolerances and extreme accuracy. MB Series is environmentally friendly, requiring no hydraulic fluid. Construction optimization based on FEM analysis and a rapid spindle traverse with Hi-G acceleration combine to create a solid, nimble machine that delivers speed and accuracy, time and time again.
- Okuma Millac 852V Heavy Duty Vertical Machining Center
MILLAC heavy duty Vertical Machining Centers are efficient high precision production machines ideal for large, heavy, hard-to-handle workpieces. Workhorse MILLAC machining centers can be equipped with a two-pallet system to increase machine productivity.
- Okuma LT2000EX Twin Spindle, Two Saddle Turning Center
The LT Series of opposing spindle turning centers achieves process- intensive machining and integrated operations with left-right opposing spindles and upper/lower multitasking turrets. Recently enhanced with higher accuracy and power, the LT Series models provide excellent productivity in mass production operations.
Features such as 16-station upper/lower multitasking turrets, Y-axis specifications (upper/lower turrets), large working range, and high speed rapid traverse enable highly efficient and flexible machining. Okuma’s Thermo-Friendly Concept provides exceptional thermal stability to the machine structure, and stable machining accuracy is maintained even during long-time continuous machining with high accuracy linear guides.
- Okuma LB3000EX-MYW One Saddle Turning Center
Based on Okuma’s best-selling series of one-saddle CNC lathes, the LB-EX Series boasts four models and 66 variations. Specifications range from Y-axis, sub spindle, NC fully programmable tail stock, live tooling and other choices. Okuma’s high power and high speed PREX motor- driven spindles allow the fastest accelerations and decelerations in its class. Okuma’s Thermo-Friendly Concept, and other features have been added, enabling the LB-EX Series to deliver exceptionally high performance and productivity.
- Bridgeport GX1000 Vertical Machining Center
The Bridgeport 40-taper spindle GX-Series vertical machining centers deliver many years of accurate and reliable machining performance. It includes a stiff and thermally-stable spindle, a rigid C-frame fixed column design, and fixed pre-tensioned double-nut ball screws on all axes. The unique Bridgeport-designed linear guide and guide truck configuration provides added stiffness, damping and surface contact area. Unit is configured with three guideways and five guide trucks on both the X- and Y-axis; two guideways and six guide trucks on the Z-axis.
- Trumpf TruMark 3020 Marking Laser/TruMark Station 5000
The cost-effective processing of metallic surfaces and plastics is the forte of the TruMark 3020. As the direct successor of the VMc1, a model in use in thousands of locations around the world, the TruMark 3020 is attractive due to the 80% reduction in power consumption it gains from one-of-a-kind power efficiency.
